Who Can Sell at the Dorset Farmers’ Market?
- A producer of goods that are homegrown/homemade/handmade
- A full Time Resident of Vermont or Washington/ Saratoga Counties of NY
- A properly registered, licensed, and insured business owner
- Immediate family members or a non-family member employee/intern who is working at the point of production may also sell at market*
What Can Be Sold at the Market?
Any product, properly labeled with production origin, that is homemade, handmade, homegrown, or gathered from nature in Vermont, or Washington/ Saratoga Counties, NY.
What Cannot Be Sold at the Market?
- Flea Market Items
- Crafts Made From Kits
- Food Items That Are Not Correctly Labeled and/or Packaged
- Foods Made From Mixes or Repackaged Foods
* The Board of Directors reserves the right to prohibit sale of items it deems improperly prepared, or incompatible with the mission of the Market*
* In the interest of maintaining a diverse market, the Board of Directors also reserves the right to limit the number of same-type products at market*
Market Policies
Space Fees
- Vendors can pay by the week, half-season, or season.
- The season consists of 22 weeks
- Rates reflect a 10ft x 10ft stall.
- If a vendor needs a larger space then he/she must pay for two spaces.
- Daily rate is $20; Half-season rate is $110; Full season rate is $220
- Half Season Vendors must choose to attend the first 11 or last 11 markets
- Payment is due with application.
- Checks should be made out to the Dorset Farmers’ Market.
- A $20 Annual Membership Fee is also due with your application; if we are unable to accept you as a vendor, this will be reimbursed to you.
Application Process
- Spaces are limited.
- New Applications must be received by the Market Manager 2 weeks prior of the market in which the vendor wishes to participate.
- Applications are reviewed and approved by the appointed Board of Directors and Jury Committee.
- The Board of directors reserves the right to warn, suspend, expel, or decline acceptance to vendors who have violated market policy and/or undermined the reputation, welfare, or community spirit of the market*
- The Jury Committee reserves the right to request additional information for review in the application process.
- Vendors will be notified of the application approval or denial at least 48 hours prior to requested market day.
- Any person is entitled to make a “formal complaint” in writing to the market manager, who will then forward the complaint to the established Grievance Committee; who will issue a decision after review, which may include a farm, home, or business visit.
Insurance/Proper Labeling/Compliance with State Regulations
- The market carries insurance to cover accidents that may occur on the market grounds however, vendors are solely responsible for accidents or incidents involving damages to other vendors or the visiting public resulting from their wares, displays, or vehicles. Thus, vendors are encouraged to carry product liability insurance.
- Vendors must properly secure their tents to the ground every market day to minimize the risk of danger to others from windswept tents.
- Vendors are individually responsible for proper licensing and compliance with state and federal health regulations where applicable.
- All products must be properly labeled according to the USDA and FDA.
- The collection and reporting of Vermont sales tax, meals tax, and/or local tax is the responsibility of the vendor.
- All vendors must post, or have in their possession, a copy of any, and all, State and Federal business licenses applicable to the vendor’s business. Market Day Obligations
- Set Up Time: Market hours are from 10am-2pm. Set up begins at 8:30am. All vendors must be set up, ready for business by 9:45am.
- Vendors arriving after 9:45 a.m. may not be permitted to set up. If a Vendor is not present by 9:45 a.m. and has not given 48 hours notice to the Manager, their space may be given to another vendor.
- All vendors may unload with their cars in front of their tent space if the space assigned does not accompany a parking spot; vendors then must park in the designated parking lot across the street prior to setup.
- Take Down Time: Vendors may not take down their stand until 2pm, even if you are sold out; if you have a prior obligation please contact the market manager in advance to make special arrangements.
- The market is rain or shine and it is expected that all vendors show up and stay no matter the weather conditions.
- Cancellation: Vendors are expected to notify the market manager 48 hours in advance if they are unable to attend market. If notice is not given prior to 48 hours of market, it will be noted by the manager.
- Livestock are not permitted at market without prior board approval.
- Smoking is not permitted on the grounds of H.N. Williams’ lawn while market is in session.
