Who Can Sell at the Dorset Farmer’s Market?
We are an open market. Anyone who carries proper licensing and insurance for their business and who is registered with the State of Vermont (or New York, as applicable) as a business may apply to become a vendor.
Each vendor must sell goods that are grown/raised/baked or created by themselves. Immediate family members or a non-family member employee/intern may sell at market, as long as they participate in the production of goods sold.
What Can Be Sold at the Market?
Any product, properly labeled with production origin; that is homemade, handmade, homegrown, or gathered from nature in Vermont, or Washington/ Saratoga Counties, NY.
What Cannot Be Sold at the Market?
- Flea Market Items
- Crafts Made From Kits
- Food Items That Are Not Correctly Labeled and/or Packaged
- Foods Made From Mixes or Repackaged Foods
*The Board of Directors, by majority vote, reserves the right to prohibit sale of items it deems improperly prepared or incompatible with the mission of the of the Dorset Farmer’s Market. And in the interest of maintaining a varied market, the Board of Directors also reserves the right to limit the number of same-type products at market.
Market Policies
Space Fees
- Vendors can pay by the week, half-season, or season.
- Rates reflect a 10 ft. frontage stall.
- If a vendor needs a larger space then he/she must pay for two spaces.
- Daily Rate is $20; Half-season rate is $100; Full season rate is $200
- Checks shall be made out to the Dorset Farmer’s Market
Application Process
- Spaces are limited. Vendors are urged to apply early so spaces can be reserved.
- The applications are reviewed and approved by the appointed Board of Directors and Jury Committee.
- New Applications must be received by the Market Manager one week prior of the market in which the vendor wishes to participate.
- Vendors will be notified of the application approval or denial at least 48 hours prior to requested market day.
- The appointed jury committee reserves the right to request additional information for review in the application process.
- The Board of directors reserves the right to warn, suspend, expel, or decline acceptance to vendors who have violated market policy and/or undermined the reputation, welfare, or community spirit of the market.
- Any person is entitled to make a “formal complaint” in writing to the market manager, who will then forward the complaint to the established Grievance Committee; who will issue a decision after review, which may include a farm, home, or business visit.
Insurance/Proper Labeling/Compliance with State Regulations
- Vendors should have their own liability insurance on their products.
- All products must be properly labeled according to the USDA.
- All vendors must be properly registered and licensed as a business in the state of Vermont or New York
- All vendors must comply with the Vermont State Regulations for Farmers’ Markets.
- All vendors must post, or have in their possession, a copy of any, and all, State and Federal business licenses applicable to the vendor’s business.

Market Day Obligations
- Set Up Time: Market hours are from 10am-2pm. All vendors must be set up by 9:45am. Set up begins at 8:30 am.
- All vendors may unload their vehicles at the J.K. Adams loading dock and must park their car in the adjacent vendor parking area.
- Take Down Time: Vendors may not take down their stand until 2pm, even if you are sold out.
- Cancellation: Vendors must notify the market manager 48 hours in advance if they cannot make it to the market.
- Vendors arriving after 9:45 a.m. may not be permitted to set up, and their space may be given to another Vendor.
- Preparation of food on-site, including the use of grills to prepare samples, will not be allowed due to the risk of setting off smoke alarms and sprinklers inside the warehouse. Re-heating food using crock pots and other similar devices that do not produce smoke are allowed.
- Due to limited indoor space no livestock or vendor pets are allowed at market.
